Participation and Engagement
Overview
To fully achieve this course’s learning objectives, you must participate actively in all class meetings and project activities, including contributing your fair share of group work. Attending all class meetings is mandatory, and missing class will significantly impact the assessment of participation in this course. The only exceptions are:
- bona fide extenuating circumstances consistent with University Attendance Requirements with an email notification to your instructor ahead of the absence, and
- religious observance with an email notification to your instructor ahead of the absence.
Missing class
Regardless of the reason for missing class, you will be required to make up any work you missed to avoid an impact on your Participation and Engagement assessment.
To make up an in-class workshop, start by getting in touch with your teammates and/or instructor to find out the activities, requirements, and submission procedure for the workshop activities.
To make up a missed screening and critique, start by getting in touch with your teammates and/or instructor to find out what you missed, in addition, you must watch all of the videos submitted and write three significant comments about each video and submit your responses via the designated assignment in Canvas.
Whether you attend a class meeting or not, you are responsible to know what was covered and what work is expected of you, especially during workshops.
You must make-up missed work (especially workshop deliverables) within seven days to avoid an impact on the assessment of your participation and engagement in the course.
Assessment
Participation and Engagement contributes 10 points to your final grade and is the only exception to the complete/incomplete assessment policy in this course. The assessment will take into consideration the level of participation in class activities and the level of engagement with assignments and project deliverables, and may be assessed anywhere from 0 for incomplete engagement and participation to 10 for exemplary participation and engagement in all class activities.
